Emre Can announcement due after Champions League final, hints Juventus chief
Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta expects to announce the arrival of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can after next weekend’s Champions League final.
Can’s existing Liverpool deal is due to expire this summer and the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus all season.
The Serie A giants have been focal in their pursuit of the Germany international, having earmarked Can as the ideal long-term replacement for Sami Khedira.
There were suggestions earlier this year that Can had reconsidered staying with Liverpool but Juventus are now confident they have secured their top transfer target.
“I’m confident we will be able to announce Emre Can after the Champions League final,” Sky Sports quote the Juventus chief as saying on Saturday.
It means that Can has already played his final game for Liverpool, as a persistent back injury has ruled him out of the Champions League final.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since the middle of March and the untimely nature of his injury has also cost him a place in the Germany squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Can was enjoying arguably his best ever season for Liverpool prior to injury, playing a direct hand in seven goals from 26 league appearances.
Not only that, but Can is Liverpool’s third highest WhoScored rated player in the Premier League (15+ apps) this season (7.28).
