United eye another former midfielder

Manchester United are weighing up a sensational £30m bid to re-sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City, according to The Sun.

United were ridiculed for breaking the world record to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford in the summer having let him leave for £800,000 but that hasn’t appeared to have put them off bringing another former midfielder back.

Drinkwater failed to make a senior appearance for United before moving to Leicester in 2012 but the 26-year-old proved a pivotal figure in their title winning campaign last season and his performances have caught the eye of Jose Mourinho.

The United boss has already been told not to expect any investment in January but that has not stopped rumours circulating linking Drinkwater with a high profile return as Mourinho looks to fix his stuttering midfield.

Since the start of last season Drinkwater has won possession more times in the midfield third than any other player in the Premier League (218)and at least 93 more times than any other United player (Daley Blind – 125).
