Lukaku told to leave Manchester United by Belgium head coach

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has weighed in on Romelu Lukaku’s future and says the striker must leave Manchester United.

Lukaku has spent the last two years at United but is heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

The 26-year-old has dropped down the pecking at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is now a top transfer target for Inter.

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to take Lukaku to Inter after missing out on the striker during his time in England.

Lukaku has already hailed Conte as the best manager in the world but Inter are unwilling to match United’s £75m valuation.

Selling Lukaku is not a priority for United this summer but the Red Devils are open to his departure if they can recoup their initial investment.

Lukaku faces the prospect of starting next season on the bench and his international manager, Martinez, has urged him to move club this summer.

“It is clear that he has to leave Manchester United,” Martinez told Belgian newspaper HLN. “It would be a good thing for both parties. It is now important that Romelu finds the right club.”

Lukaku has scored more league goals than any other United player since joining the club (28) but his performances have divided opinion among supporters.
