Harry Winks is now on Barcelona’s radar after impressing sporting director Robert Fernandez against Real Madrid at Wembley on Wednesday night, reports The London Evening Standard.
Fernandez was in attendance in London in midweek and it’s thought the meaning behind his visit was to scout Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has emerged as a potential transfer target for the summer.
However, the Barcelona chief was left even more impressed by the performance of Winks, who was arguably one of Tottenham’s best players in both Champions League group matches against Madrid.
The inexperienced 21-year-old did not look at all out of place up against idols Luka Modric and Toni Kroos and Barcelona will reportedly now keep a watchful eye on his progress at Tottenham.
Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele’s injury concerns provided Winks the opportunity to cement a place in the starting XI and he has taken it with both hands, even forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England plans.
Winks has started four Premier League games this season and in that time Tottenham average more goals per game (2.25) and concede fewer (0.5) compared to when he has not featured from the off.
