Bayern Munich want Thiago stay amid Liverpool offer

Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick says he is trying to convince Thiago to sign a new deal amid reports of a move away this summer.

Thiago has entered the final 12 months of his current Bayern deal and is reportedly desperate to secure a Premier League move.

Bayern will be forced to sell Thiago this summer if the Spain international refuses new terms but Flick hasn't given up hope of convincing the 29-year-old to stay.

"The thing is, I always have hope. I'm actually always very positive about things," Goal quote Flick as telling reporters after their DFB-Pokal final win on Saturday.

"I also know, of course, that when you're a certain age and you've already played in the Spanish league with Barcelona and in the Bundeslgia with Bayern Munich, you feel the need to experience another big league. That is quite normal and that is also human.

"I'm trying my best to make sure Thiago stays here and that you can convince him to stay. But that's one thing that time will show. We still have the Champions League ahead of us now and we have a lot of plans, also together with him."

Bayern will reportedly entertain offers of just €35m (£31.7m) for the world class midfielder if they are forced to cash in and Liverpool have emerged as surprise frontrunners.

Signing Thiago would go against Liverpool's usual transfer policy but the midfielder is much admired by head coach Jurgen Klopp, who has already revealed the club will have to be creative in this summer's transfer window.

A cut price deal for one of Europe's best technical midfielders may be tempting enough for Liverpool, even if he turns 30 towards the end of next season.

Of players that attempted at least 25 dribbles in the Bundesliga this season, Thiago had the best success rate (85.5%).
