Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed the Bundesliga giants are interested in signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.
The Germany international has entered the final six months of his current Schalke deal and looks destined to leave on a Bosman transfer at the end of the season.
Schalke have even tabled the biggest contract in the club’s history in order to convince Goretzka to stay but it seems inevitable he will join one of Europe’s biggest sides in the summer.
Liverpool and Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old, Bayern remain the favourites for Goretzka’s signature according to football betting odds sites and have now officially confirmed their interest.
“Leon Goretzka is a great player, that’s clear,” The Guardian quote Salihamidzic as saying. “He is a Schalke player and we obviously respect that. But he is a Germany international and we can say that we are interested in him.”
In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, only Kevin Kampl (264) has won possession in the middle third more times than Goretzka (255).
