Inter in talks for Southampton defender

Inter have made contact with Southampton to find out whether full-back Cedric Soares is available this month, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Serie A giants want to bolster their defensive options this month and Soares has emerged as a potential target.

Inter have been heavily linked with a move for Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian but are now considering alternatives after deeming the Italian too expensive.

United are demanding a €6m loan fee this month and then a further €6m to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Inter in talks for Southampton defender

Soares has endured a torrid season for Southampton and has even been usurped in the pecking order by 19-year-old Yan Valery under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Inter have opened negotiations with Southampton for the Portugal international and will get a better understanding of his availability in the next few days.

Southampton have a startling better win ratio in the Premier League when Soares hasn’t started this season (57.1%) compared to when he has featured from the off (6.3%).
