West Brom have been boosted in their pursuit of Spanish frontman Alvaro Negredo after it emerged the frontman would favour a Premier League stay, reports the Sun.
Negredo spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, but was unable to fire the north-east side to safety, despite the experienced hitman enjoying a respectable campaign for the side.
The 31-year-old netted nine Premier League goals - more than any other Middlesbrough player - and registered a further four assists, having a direct hand in 48.1% of Boro's total last season, highlighting his impact at the Riverside Stadium.
Following their relegation, Negredo was never going to extend his spell with Boro, yet his good form attracted interest from across Europe.
West Brom, though, are now believed to be leading the race to sign the former Manchester City striker after it emerged he would favour a stay in England, with it likely that parent club Valencia will look to cash in on Negredo, who has two years left to run on his current deal with the La Liga side.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis is keen to add another frontman to his side, with the West Brom manager short on attacking options to lead the line beyond Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu.
And they could make their move as early as next week as Pulis looks to bolster his squad ahead of the coming campaign.
