Chelsea wrap up deal for Kai Havertz

Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2025.

Chelesea saw an initial offer of £62m accepted by Leverkusen at the start of the week, though the fee, even with add ons, isn't believed to eclipse the club-record £71.4m paid for Kepa in 2018.

Frank Lampard's side were hoping to secure Havertz's signature for a lower price with a COVID-discount and came to an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

Havertz has been pushing to join Chelsea after Leverkusen failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The Germany international is regarded as a generational talent and takes Chelsea's summer splurge beyond the £200m mark.

Chelsea have now welcomed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Havertz in a remarkable summer, with at least one more addition planned.

Havertz played a direct hand in 24 goals in 35 appearances across league and European competition last season, with all but three of those goal involvements falling in 2020.
