Liverpool open talks with Roma for £70m-rated star

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson and want to wrap up a deal for the Roma goalkeeper before the end of the season, reports Sky Sports.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were heavily linked with a move for Alisson in January but opted to stick with their current options for the rest of the season before assessing their options in the summer.

Loris Karius has been given the chance to prove himself for the remainder of the campaign but Liverpool are already putting plans in place to sign a new long-term goalkeeper.

Liverpool have opened preliminary discussions with Roma for Alisson, who is widely regarded as one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Europe.

The 26-year-old is currently Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper, ahead of Manchester City’s Ederson, and Roma reportedly value him at €70m (£62m).

Liverpool prised Mohamed Salah away from Roma in the summer and are now hoping to complete another raid of the Serie A side as Klopp looks to assemble a formidable team at Anfield.

Of goalkeepers that have made at least 10 appearances in Europe’s top five leagues this season, only Jan Oblak (91.9%), Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (85.1%) and David De Gea (80.6%) have a better save success rate than Alisson (79.6%).
