Kovacic rules out Inter return

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has ruled out a return to Inter as long as Roberto Mancini is still at the club.

Inter sold Kovacic to Madrid for £22.5m last summer but the Croatia international has failed to establish himself in the team and has been linked with a return to Italy as a result.

The 22-year-old has revealed he had a strange relationship with Mancini in the build up to his exit from Inter and, while he is considering his future at Madrid after just one season, he is not willing to reunite Mancini at San Siro.

“Milan or Juventus? You never know what’s going to happen in the future. I don’t know what will happen,” Kovacic told Sport Mediaset, via AS.

When quizzed about a potential return to Inter, Kovacic instantly quashed those suggestions: “I won’t go back there with Mancini on the bench. I had a weird relationship with him, but these are personal things and there’s no need to talk about them.”

Kovacic only started eight league matches for Madrid last season and only Jese (21) was subbed on more times than Kovacic under Rafa Benitez and Zinedine Zidane (17).
