Benteke equals Premier League record in 5-4 Swansea defeat

 

Swansea’s dramatic 5-4 win over Crystal Palace wasn’t the only notable takeaway from a thrilling encounter between two relegation bound sides, but also the fact Christian Benteke equalled a Premier League record for aerial duels won this season.

 

Benteke, 25, scored once and registered an assist in Palace’s sixth league defeat in a row, but also won 14 aerial duels during his display, equalling the record he set earlier in the season when Palace met West Ham in October.

The Belgium international is winning a staggering 9.8 aerial duels per game, which is by far and away the most in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Montpellier striker Steve Mounie is second, winning 8.2 aerial duels per game.

 

Benteke has reserved his best performances away from Selhurst Park, where he is yet to score this season. In fact, the Liverpool flop has played a direct hand in six league goals this season, all of which have come on the road this season.
