Heaton shocks Burnley by rejecting new contract

Tom Heaton’s future at Burnley has been thrown into doubt after rejecting an offer of a new deal at Turf Moor, reports The Sun.

Heaton has entered the final 12 months of his current Burnley contract and the Clarets were hopeful of resolving his future before the start of next season.

The 33-year-old finished last season as Burnley’s first choice goalkeeper ahead of fellow England internationals Nick Pope and Joe Hart.

Burnley have been locked in talks with Heaton about a new long-term but it has now emerged the veteran goalkeeper has turned down the club’s first offer.

It has put Premier League duo Bournemouth and Aston Villa on red alert, with both clubs on the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Of goalkeepers that made at least 15 Premier League appearances last season, Heaton had the fifth best save success rate in the division (71.6%).
