Former PSG forward sticks boot in at Ligue 1

Former Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi says he quit the Ligue 1 champions because he did not like Ligue 1.

Lavezzi, 30, swapped PSG for Chinese Super League outfit Hebei Fortune in February, just a few weeks after Laurent Blanc’s side wrapped up their fourth straight Ligue 1 title.

However, the Argentina international didn’t have kind words to say about the French top-flight, brandishing the level of competition as demotivating.

“I did not like the Ligue 1,” Lavezzi told L’Equipe, via ESPN. “I do not find it motivating. That is the truth.

“PSG are so strong compared to the other teams. I do not really take pleasure in matches.

“Italy is different, you have eight big matches in a season but in France it is two.”

Lavezzi dropped down the pecking order at the Parc des Prince in his final 12 months at the club and was limited to just three starts under Blanc this season. He made 13 further appearances from the substitutes’ bench and could only manage one successful dribble in his 427 minutes on the pitch.
