Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has confirmed he is interested in signing free agent Emmanuel Adebayor.
Adebayor, 31, has been without a club since being released from Tottenham at the start of September, with interested clubs put off by his excessive wage demands.
Connor Wickham’s penalty against Stoke midway through December is the only goal a Palace striker has scored this season and Pardew has confirmed Adebayor is a player the club are interested in signing this month if the fit is right.
“Adebayor is a player that is there for somebody and it is a question of ourselves looking at that one and wondering where the right club for him is and whether he is the right player for us,” Pardew is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
“It’s something that is in our mix and we’ll have to wait and see. We are trying to bring a striker in – whether permanently or on loan – and myself and Steve [Parish, Palace’s chairman] are making a lot of phone calls to try and resolve that.”
Adebayor hasn’t featured in a Premier League game since the end of last season (May 3 2015 vs Manchester City) and you would have to go back to the end of October 2014 before finding the last time he scored a league goal.
