Inter chief questions Di Maria’s suitability

Inter technical director Walter Sabatini has questioned whether Angel Di Maria would fit in at the club and all but ruled out a summer move for the Paris Saint-Germain winger.

Di Maria has been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A giants in recent days after being tipped as a potential replacement for Manchester United target Ivan Perisic.

The Argentina international has endured two underwhelming campaigns with PSG but Sabatini has poured cold waters on suggestions Inter are on the verge of making a stunning play for his signature.

“As for Angel Di Maria, we have to be sure that he’s right for Inter, he might not fit,” Football Italia quote Sabatini as saying at an Inter press conference. “Wage concerns should be taken into account by every club.

“I’m not talking about Di Maria’s ability, which is huge, but that doesn’t mean he’s the player Inter need, even if he’s a fantastic player.

“It could be that afterward I’ll change my mind and he’ll arrive, but I don’t think so.”

Inter chief questions Di Maria’s suitability

Inter have been incredibly overshadowed by AC Milan in the transfer market this summer and need to act quickly to avoid a disastrous few months.

While their city rivals have spent well over £100m on new signings this summer, Inter have only managed to sign Milan Skriniar from Sampdoria and Spanish veteran Borja Valero at a fraction of the cost.

Despite underperforming for a large stint of his spell in Paris, Di Maria has still recorded the most assists in Ligue 1 in the last two campaigns (25).
