Aston Villa complete sixth signing of the summer

Aston Villa have announced the arrival of Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on a long-term deal.

Mings spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa and Dean Smith’s side have agreed a reported £20m fee to make his switch permanent.

The 26-year-old is the sixth signing Villa have made this summer following the arrivals of Wesley, Matt Targett, Jota, Kortney Hause and Anwar El Ghazi.

“We’re really pleased to have Tyrone back at Aston Villa on a permanent basis,” Smith told the club’s official website. “I think everybody could see the connection that he made with the club as a whole and it is excellent news that we can continue the relationship in the Premier League.

“He will be an integral part of the squad for the new season and I look forward to working with him and helping to further develop his game.”

Mings played a key part in Villa’s promotion to the Premier League last season, including a winning streak of 10 matches, after joining on loan from Bournemouth in January.

The towering centre-back has Premier League experience under his belt, though he only made 10 starts over four Premier League campaigns with Bournemouth.

Villa won 61.1% of their league matches last season when Mings started compared to a win ratio of just 35.5% when he did not feature from the off.
