Paul Pogba cancels Manchester United exit plans

Paul Pogba has cancelled attempts to leave Manchester United in January following Jose Mourinho’s surprise dismissal, claims The Sun.

Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday in a shock announcement and his departure his immediately eased the mood around the club, with some reports claiming the players were ‘relieved’ to see him go.

Pogba was one of several high-profile United players that repeatedly came to blows with the Portuguese during his turbulent two-and-a-half-year tenure.

Mourinho benched Pogba for his final three games in charge and didn’t even bring United’s club record signing on during Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to arch rivals Liverpool.

Juventus and Barcelona have been heavily linked with a January move for Pogba all season but the United midfielder has now abandoned plans to leave his boyhood club for the second time in his career.

Former United striker Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is expected to be appointed United’s interim manager in the next 24 hours and in August said he would build the team around Pogba if he was in charge.

Solskjaer worked with Pogba during his two-and-a-half-year spell as United’s reverse-team manager until 2010 and the 2018 World Cup winner will no doubt thrive off a manager willing to let him flourish in midfield.

Despite a turbulent campaign, Pogba is United’s highest WhoScored rated player in the Premier League this season (7.04) and has played a direct hand in six goals in 14 league games.
