Manchester United enter race for Liverpool target Thiago

Bayern Munich have offered Manchester United the chance to sign wantaway midfielder Thiago, claims ESPN.

Thiago has entered the final 12 months of his current Bayern deal and made it clear he wants to leave.

Liverpool are clear favourites for the Spain international but have flat out refused to match Bayern's €30m (£26.7m) asking price.

Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Thiago but Liverpool do not really need a player in his position and at 29 his arrival would go against their usual recruitment policy.

Bayern believe they are already offering a world class player at a heavily discounted price and are hoping to lure United in to force Liverpool's hand.

Thiago thought he was joining United in 2013 until David Moyes bizarrely put the brakes on a move for the ex-Barcelona midfielder.

However, the Bayern star reportedly has his sights set on joining Liverpool and it's unclear whether United will progress with anything other than talks after landing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Thiago, who was the WhoScored Man of the Match in the 2019/20 Champions League final, had the best dribble success rate (24+ attempted) in the Bundesliga last season (85.5%).
