RB Leipzig have announced key man Marcel Sabitzer has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal running until 2022.
Sabitzer’s has spent the last four years at Leipzig after joining the Bundesliga outfit from Rapid Wien in 2014.
The Austria international’s previous deal was due to expire in 2021 but Leipzig have moved to secure his future by an extra 12 months.
“I still feel very well at RB Leipzig, I also feel great trust here and I am pleased about the contract extension,” he told the club’s official website.
“I am not yet at the end of my development and I want to continue to do my part to take the next step. I think that a lot is possible with RB Leipzig.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will lose Naby Keita at the end of the season and are expected to face interest in star duo Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg sooner rather than later.
After a stunning start to the season, Sabitzer’s form has tailed off dramatically since the start of February.
In fact, his goal against Bayer Leverkusen on Monday was his first since October and ended a run of 11 matches without a goal or an assist.
However, only Salif Sane (7) has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times than Sabitzer in the Bundesliga this season (5).
