Lyon have announced the arrival of highly rated midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Athletico Paranaense in a deal worth €20m (£16.9m).
Guimaraes has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal running until the summer of 2024, while the Brazilian club are entitled to 20 per cent profit on any future transfer.
The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the window but the Gunners did not have the funds to get a deal over the line.
Atletico Madrid were also keen on the defensive midfielder but Guimaraes opted to join Lyon.
The Brazil Under-23 international has been signed as Lucas Tousart's long-term replacement after the Frenchman was sold to Hertha Berlin this month.
Guimaraes made 25 league appearances for Athletico Paranaense last season and scored two goals and supplied one assist.
Moreover, no player completed more accurate through balls in last season's Brasileirao than Guimaraes (seven).
