N’Golo Kante has revealed he turned down the chance to move to Manchester United before joining Chelsea this summer.
The 25-year-old was linked with a number of top clubs in the summer after playing a pivotal role in Leicester’s shock title winning campaign last season.
Kante has revealed that Jose Mourinho got in contact shortly after winning the title to discuss a move to United before eventually sealing a £32m switch to Chelsea.
“It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d be warned before how we would appeal to me,” Sky News quote Kante as saying.
“I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United. But at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea.
“My discussions with them were already underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with Conte.”
Since the start of last season Kante has completed more tackles and interceptions than any other player in Europe’s big five leagues (344).
