Everton confirm staggering £40m deal for Brazilian

Everton have announced the arrival of Watford forward Richarlison on a five-year deal running until 2023.

Richarlison only joined Watford for £12.5m last summer but has earned a blockbuster move to reunite with Marco Silva at Goodison Park.

Silva was Watford manager when Richarlison joined the Hornets and the Brazilian played his best football under the 41-year-old.

Richarlison made a hugely impressive start to life in the Premier League but his form tailed off dramatically from December and even more so after Silva was sacked in January.

Despite only managing one assist in the final six months of last season, Everton have reportedly agreed to shell out in excess of £40m for the 21-year-old.

“I want to have a lot of success with Everton,” he told the club’s official website. “I think it is going to be important for me to be with Marco Silva again. I will learn more because I am still learning as a player and I aim to develop and grow here.

“Everton have put their faith in me and I intend to honour this shirt and demonstrate on the pitch why I came here. I’ve known the manager for a while obviously, so I know how he works.

“I developed really well with him while he was with me at Watford. It was really good working with him and one day I believe he can help me to be selected for Brazil in the full national team.

“But that is for the future and my present is here with Everton. I want my dreams to become a reality at one of the biggest clubs in England.”

Manchester United were linked with a move for the Brazilian throughout last season but Everton have won the race for his signature.

Richarlison was fouled more times than any other player in the Premier League last season (95) and has become Everton’s second most expensive signing of all-time.
