Manchester City captain a huge doubt for Liverpool clash

Manchester City have been rocked by news captain Vincent Kompany may not be fit for their huge clash with Premier League rivals Liverpool on Saturday, reports The Daily Mail.

Kompany reportedly picked up a calf problem during Belgium’s win over Gibraltar during the international break and was rested for their following match against Greece.

The 31-year-old, who has now had 15 calf issues in the last five years, did not train with his City teammates on Thursday and is now believed to be a huge doubt for Saturday’s early kick off against Liverpool.

His absence would provide Pep Guardiola with a huge blow going into the game, given City’s defence tends to collapse without Kompany’s presence on the pitch.

Kompany’s return to fitness towards the end of last season lessened Guardiola’s desire to sign a new starting centre-back this summer but that is a huge gamble given his ability to breakdown at any moment.

In the last three Premier League campaigns, Kompany has only managed to play in 32% of the available game time during that period.
