Everton defender suffers leg break

Everton full-back Seamus Coleman is unlikely to see first team action before the end of the year after sustaining a horrific leg break while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The right-back was involved in a clash with Wales left-back Neil Taylor in Friday’s 0-0 draw, with the Aston Villa defender sent off following the incident.

Coleman was stretchered off and required oxygen for the injury, with Ireland manager Martin O’Neill saying the 28-year-old has broken his leg.

“It’s a bad break,” O’Neill said after the game via Everton’s official website.

“Seamus Coleman is a fantastic player and a fantastic character and that’s a massive blow for the lad, himself obviously. It’s a major blow for his club and a major blow for us. I’m disappointed. He’s gone to hospital and I think it’s broken.

“I saw Seamus’ reaction immediately. He was holding his leg up and it didn’t look good.”

Coleman joins long-term absentee Yannick Bolasie on the sidelines, with he too not expected back in action until 2018.
