De Bruyne adds fuel to Alexis Sanchez links at Manchester City
Kevin De Bruyne says Alexis Sanchez will add something extra to the Manchester City side when he joins from Arsenal this month.
Sanchez has entered the final six months of his existing Arsenal deal and is expected to reunite with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, although a fee is yet to be agreed between the two teams.
Guardiola wants to land the Chile international this month following Gabriel Jesus’ serious knee injury and De Bruyne is in favour of the move.
“A very good player,” The Daily Telegraph quote De Bruyne as saying when describing Sanchez. “When he comes he will add something to the team. Obviously we will see what happens in this transfer period.
“We [as players] don’t have to take care about that anyway. If a good player comes to us that is better, if he doesn’t come we do it with the team we have. We are on a good period already, the whole season. Everybody is doing a good job.”
The Belgium international has been in outstanding form for City this tern and is a frontrunner for the end of season PFA Player of the Year award.
City are keen to reward De Bruyne with a new long-term deal before the 2018 World Cup but the 26-year-old insists he is still waiting for a contract offer.
“We are still in negotiations," he added. "I am waiting for an offer from the club by my agent [Patrick De Koster] has been on holiday for three weeks. There is nothing really new for the moment.
“Probably [a new deal will happen soon]. I’m not in a hurry. I still have three-and-a-half years on the [current] contract.”
City are currently 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and De Bruyne has been integral to their success on all fronts this season.
In fact, no player has provided more assists than De Bruyne (9) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
