Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given his backing to underfire goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
The Belgium international has courted criticism at times during his Liverpool career and was at fault for Bordeaux’s opener in their Europa League win last week.
However, Klopp has given the 27-year-old a vote of confidence and insists he isn’t looking to sign another goalkeeper when the transfer window opens.
“I’m absolutely satisfied with our goalkeeping situation,” Klopp is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“I’m sorry to kill your stories… German goalkeepers, one from Stoke. We have quality goalkeepers. Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I’ve ever had.”
“He’s open, completely open. He’s young enough to improve and since I’m here there’s nothing to criticise.”
Since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2013, only Joe Hart (34) has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League than Mignolet (28).
