Sheffield United break club transfer record for Manchester United target

Sheffield United have announced the signing of highly rated Genk midfielder Sander Berge for a club-record fee worth £25m.

Chris Wilder's side have been pursuing Berge's signature since the end of last season and have finally got a deal over the line for the 21-year-old.

Manchester United and Liverpool have kept tabs on Berge's development over the last 12 months and the fact Sheffield United have landed him is a major coup for the Blades.

Berge has put pen to paper on a long term contract with the newly promoted Premier League outfit.

The Norway international started all six of Genk's Champions League group matches earlier in the season.

Genk were unfortunately drawn in a group alongside Liverpool, Salzburg and Napoli and unsurprisingly finished bottom.

The Belgian outfit picked up one point from their six matches but Berge caught the eye and even earned praise from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Berge impressively completed 72.7% of his dribbles in the group stage and completed 70.9% of his attempted long balls.
