Manchester United target confirms he is leaving Monaco

Manchester United target Fabinho has revealed this will be his last season for Monaco, putting a number of European giants on red alert for his signature.

Fabinho was denied the chance to leave Monaco over the summer as most of his teammates completed high profile moves to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain and United were heavily linked for his signature and could now rekindle their interest following Fabinho’s latest comments.

However, both could face competition from Atletico Madrid after Fabinho revealed Diego Simeone’s side could be a possible destination when he leaves Monaco in the summer.

“Normally, it’s my last season at Monaco. I don’t think there’s the possibility to leave [in January],” ESPN quote him as saying on Wednesday.

“I’ve not had any contact and I haven’t asked to leave in January. I’m calm at Monaco, and I wouldn’t be able to play in the Champions League with another team.

“During the transfer window and even in the month after, it was a difficult situation to handle [not leaving]. I should have left, I didn’t leave. But I’m not think about that any more – the page has been turned.

“I’m focused on Monaco, but I know I’m not the Fabinho of last season. I’m not in a bad spell, but I’m not back to my best. I’m not able to do the same things as last season.

“In my head, I know I must do better, improve, help the team play better and win matches.

“It’s a possibility [joining Atletico], but no one from Atletico has spoken to me or my agent.

“We’re talking about the summer transfer window, but a lot of things can happen between now and then.  I’ll have to show that I have the level to play in teams like that. We’ll talk about that in May.”
