Tim Sherwood is still hopeful of completing the transfer of Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, despite reports suggesting a deal had broken down.
The Togolese frontman had been close to securing a switch to Aston Villa last week, but there has been a snag in negotiations and, as things stands, Adebayor will start the season as a Spurs player.
However, Sherwood has not given up on a deal for the 31-year-old, saying: "He was here and we spoke but he's a Tottenham player.
"He's still a Tottenham player so something went wrong. If it can be revived and we think it's necessary, the two parties have to agree on it.
"At the moment there's no agreement and he's a Tottenham player.
"It's unfair for me to talk about him, he's a Tottenham player and I can't speculate on where he might go."
Sherwood managed Adebayor during his short spell as Spurs boss, during which time the striker impressed, with 11 of his 34 league goals in four seasons for the north London side coming under the current Villa boss.
