Manchester United star Lukaku drops shock retirement claim

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed he intends to retire from international football after the 2020 European Championships.

Belgium are currently enjoying a Golden Generation of talent and finished third at the 2018 World Cup, with Lukaku playing an integral part in their success.

The United striker became Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer in November 2017 but has sensationally revealed he could retire after Euro 2020 when he will only be 27.

“After the Euros, I think I’ll stop,” Lukaku told Business Insider when asked about his future in international football.

Lukaku made a stunning £75m move to United 12 months ago and has already settled quickly to life at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old scored 27 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions and notched four goals in six appearances at the 2018 World Cup.

Lukaku has already turned out at three major tournaments for the Belgium national team but retiring before the 2022 World Cup would be a real shock.

Despite only making a 23-minute cameo from the bench in United’s league opener against Leicester, Lukaku still managed to miss a clear-cut chance for the Red Devils.
