Huddersfield boss beats Mourinho to Manager of the Month award
Huddersfield manager David Wagner has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August.
The newly promoted side are experiencing their first taste of Premier League football this season and have made a sensational start to the campaign.
Huddersfield went unbeaten in August and enter the weekend only two points behind league leaders Manchester United after earning wins over Crystal Palace and Newcastle before ending the month with a goalless draw against Southampton.
“It’s an honour for me but I’d like to take this award for the whole club, especially my players!” Wagner told the Premier League’s official website.
“I’d hoped that we would start well but I didn’t expect it! It’s only the start and now we need to be focussed for the next one."
The Terriers didn’t concede a single goal in that period, but spare a penny for Mourinho’s thoughts after being snubbed for the award.
Mourinho’s United have a 100 per cent record in the league and scored 10 goals across their three matches.
Like Huddersfield, United also kept three clean sheets in August but Mourinho’s hoodoo in the category continues.
Despite winning the Premier League title on three occasions during his illustrious career, Mourinho has only been named the manager of the month on three occasions.
