Valencia plan contract talks with new permanent manager

Valencia are planning to sit down with interim manager Gary Neville and discuss the possibility of making him the permanent head coach beyond the end of this season, according to The Daily Mirror.

Neville, 41, was named Nuno’s shock successor as Valencia head coach back in October and the England assistant coach has endured a tough time in his maiden stint as a manager.

The former Manchester United captain was made to wait 10 matches before earning his first league win as Valencia manager as Los Che slipped dangerously close to being entangled in a surprise relegation fight.

Reports emerged after Valencia were hammered 7-0 by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey that suggested Neville wouldn’t even see out the remainder of the season following his disastrous start, let alone continue beyond this season, but he has since managed to turn things around.

Valencia have now won five of their last six matches in all competitions, comfortably advancing into the next stage of the Europa League courtesy 10-0 aggregate win over Rapid Wien and it is now being claimed that the Valencia board are considering handing Neville the role full-time on a two-year deal.

Neville’s side moved into the top half of the table with a 2-1 win away to Malaga; a ground where the likes of Sevilla, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all lost this season.
