Southampton heap more misery on West Ham

Southampton made it four wins on the spin after beating West Ham 3-0 at the London Stadium to pile more pressure on Hammers boss Slaven Bilic.

Charlie Austin opened the scoring on the stroke of half time to continue his fine form in front of goal, making it five goals in his last four matches for Southampton. Dusan Tadic ended a run of 734 minutes without a goal after 62 minutes, before James Ward-Prowse sealed the game in stoppage time.

West Ham captain Mark Noble provided a damning assessment after their latest defeat claiming things couldn’t get much worse for the east London outfit, who have lost five of their opening six league matches for the first time in their history.

Noble, who was subbed off after late into the match, admitted Southampton could have hit six past on Sunday evening as West Ham’s defensive problems mount.

Southampton were allowed to get in behind both of West Ham’s full-backs all afternoon and it was no surprise that their goals came from those situations.
