Chelsea and Manchester United on the heels of PSG hotshot

French outlet Le Parisien claim that both Manchester United and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the signature of Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer.

The Uruguayan is thought to be assessing his options but will likely wait to make a decision until after the World Cup with regards to whether he will stay at the Parc des Princes.

The Ligue 1 champions would reportedly listen to offers in excess of £50m for a player who this season became their leading goalscorer of all time, surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record.

The striker recently turned 31, so such a huge price tag may deter some suitors, with the South American likely to be in high demand should he become available, but Cavani’s goalscoring record is unquestionable.

Matching his record from last season of a goal for every league start he has made on average, the former Napoli man has managed 24 in the French top-flight this season having bagged 35 in the previous campaign.

Such pedigree is understandably sought after, and Chelsea in particular are on the lookout for a new centre forward, with Alvaro Morata having really struggled after a promising start to life in the capital.
