Former United striker still in touch with Ferguson

Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has revealed he is still in close contact with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson, who brought the Mexico international to Old Trafford in 2010, has been in retirement since standing down as United manager in 2013.

Hernandez, 27, who was deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal and sold to Bayer Leverkusen last summer, has revealed he still receives text messages from his former boss on the eve of big matches.

“For me he is the best,” Hernandez told BBC’s Football Focus, via The Daily Mirror. “He gave me the chance to make my dream come true, to play in Europe and then in one of the biggest clubs in football history. So, I’m glad I’m very happy [about] him.

“I always sat that to him, on camera, and outside. For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is still very important in my life. I keep in touch. When we play in the Champions League before the Atletico Madrid game we texted. I saw him two games before, we have a lot of contact.

“When I was going to Real Madrid on loan I spoke to him in person. I went to his house and we spoke very well. We keep in contact as good as we can. [But] he has a lot of things to do with his family, that’s why he retired.”

Hernandez has enjoyed a sublime season since moving to the Bundesliga and his performances had seen him linked with a return to the Premier League in January. ‘Little Pea’ is currently enjoying his finest goalscoring league campaign since arriving to Europe from Mexico in 2010 (14).
