Nice close to sign Ajax forward Dolberg

Nice are closing in on a shock deal to sign Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg in a deal worth €20m (£18.3m), claims De Telegraaf.

Dolberg was heavily linked with a move to Hoffenheim but it has now emerged Nice are the frontrunners for his signature.

Hoffenheim are only interested in a loan deal for the 21-year-old, which has paved the way for Nice to sign the youngster permanently.

Dolberg, who was previously linked with a move to Manchester United, has reportedly grown unsettled at Ajax after three years at the club.

The Denmark international, who has struggled with injuries, has failed to kick on at Ajax since breaking on the scene in his first year at the club.

Dolberg started 26 league matches in the 2016/17 season and returned 16 goals, but only started 11 times the following campaign and only 15 times last term.

Iconic striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is even ahead of Dolberg in the pecking order for places at Ajax despite recently turning 36.

Ajax are prepared to sell Dolberg but may rue not cashing in on the youngster two years ago when Monaco offered €50m (£45.8m).

Nice are instead looking to wrap up a deal for more than half that fee, as Patrick Vieira looks to sign a replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin.

Dolberg has scored 33 goals in 78 league appearances since August 2016, at a rate of every 146.7 minutes of action.
