RB Leipzig still hopeful of signing Everton starlet

RB Leipzig head coach Ralph Rangnick has revealed Everton have not ruled out the sale of Ademola Lookman this summer despite Marco Silva’s recent comments.

Silva is desperate for Lookman to stay at Goodison Park and believes the 20-year-old can be the future of the club, but conceded Everton still need to convince the forward.

Lookman spent the second half of last season on loan at Leipzig and is keen to reunite to the German side on a permanent basis after making a good impression at the club.

Leipzig have reportedly already had three bids turned down for Lookman this summer and have until Friday to get a deal over the line.

The transfer window for English clubs shut at the start of the month but they can still sell players until the end of the week and Rangnick says Leipzig won’t stop their pursuit until Everton say no.

“We’ll see. Lets just wait another week,” Sky Sports quote the Leipzig manager as saying. “When you turn back time to the last day of the transfer market, at 2pm we didn’t even think about a loan of Ademola Lookman.

“It seemed impossible to get him. But four hours later we got the deal done. I said then it wasn’t a last-minute deal but a last-second deal.

“We don’t plan to repeat this, because it was a very stressful situation for us. We’ll just wait. When Everton wants to keep the player they will tell us. If not we’ll see if there’s a chance of still getting him.”

Lookman is yet to feature for Everton this season and hasn’t even been named in Silva’s matchday squad in two of their opening three league games.

The England Under-21 international made 11 league appearances for Leipzig last season and scored five goals and provided three assists in that time.
