Chelsea are considering a shock swoop for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud if a deal for Roma ace Edin Dzeko collapses, reports The Daily Mirror.
The defending Premier League champions are currently locked in transfer talks with Roma but the Italian giants insist they still haven't received an acceptable offer for the Bosnian striker.
Antonio Conte is desperate to sign a new striker this month and is not prepared to waste a second in his pursuit of an alternative to Alvaro Morata with time running out in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are still hopeful of getting a deal for Dzeko over the line but are now exploring the possibility of prising Giroud away from London rivals Arsenal.
Giroud has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal all month and there is a feeling he will be allowed to leave if the Gunners sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.
Peter Crouch, Andy Carroll and Ashley Barnes have all been linked with shock moves to Stamford Bridge already this month and now Giroud is the latest Premier League target man being sounded out by the Blues.
The 31-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Arsenal in the last two seasons and fears he could lose his starting spot for France at the 2018 World Cup if he fails to play regularly until the end of the season.
Giroud has only started one Premier League match this season but has the best minutes per goal ratio of players that have made at least 10 appearances (every 90.3 minutes).
With that in mind, it’s worth investing in Giroud on Football INDEX while his share price is only £1.31. Speculation will push that price upwards as the days pass by.
