AC Milan have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas with Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri ready to sanction a cut-price deal, claims The Sun.
Fabregas’ current Chelsea deal is due to expire at the end of the season and it’s unlikely he will be offered a new contract after dropping down the pecking order under Sarri.
Chelsea bolstered their midfield options by signing Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the summer and Fabregas has been forced to settle for playing time in the Europa League.
Milan have been pursuing Fabregas for the last 18 months and now have their best chance to sign the Spaniard with the January transfer window fast approaching.
Sarri is reportedly willing to let Fabregas leave the club in January but will only sanction a deal if Milan cough up £10m.
Milan were planning to sign Fabregas on a free transfer in the summer but have brought forward their transfer plans due to their current injury crisis in midfield.
Only PAOK midfielder Jose Canas (120.5) averages more passes per Europa League game than Fabregas (102.7) this season.
