Van Persie on Besiktas' radar

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is a target for Besiktas, according to one of the Turkish club’s directors.

The 31-year-old has now entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and the club are reportedly looking to offload him this summer following a sharp decline in form and fitness.

"If the conditions are right and if he also wants to come we are willing to make an offer even if it would push us to the limit financially," director Yalcin Kaya Yilmaz told HaberTurk.

"He would really get the crowd going at the Arena and sales from season tickets and merchandise alone would be able to make back our investment."

Despite the words of encouragement coming from the club, the deal would only be viable if Besiktas could get the Netherlands international to compromise on his current £240,000-a-week wages.

Fitness issues has meant that Van Persie has started only 56% of United’s league games over the last two years, but only current teammate Wayne Rooney has managed to score as many league goals over the last six seasons (105) as the 31-year-old.
