Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has axed goalkeeper Joe Hart for their season opener against Manchester City, according to The Daily Express.
A ball-playing goalkeeper has become a staple of Guardiola's sides down the years and Hart's position as City's No.1 goalkeeper has come under serious threat since he became manager over the summer.
City have been regularly linked with a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen this summer and Guardiola's decision to drop Hart in favour of Willy Caballero against Sunderland on Saturday is the clearest indication yet that the Spaniard wants to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
In the last two Premier League campaigns no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Hart (29).
