Leipzig star could leave this month, reveals agent

The agent of Emil Forsberg has revealed the RB Leipzig star could leave the Bundesliga club this month amid speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool.

Forsbeg has been in sublime form for the newly promoted Bundesliga outfit this season and his performances for Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side have not gone unnoticed outside of Germany.

The Sweden international, who made the surprise decision to join Leipzig from Malmo in 2015, has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool already this season and the Premier League duo have been encouragement in their pursuit of the midfielder after his agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, refused to confirm whether Forsberg would remain at Leipzig until the end of the season.

“I can’t confirm any name. But after a great first half of the season, big clubs have reached out to me,” Cetinkaya told German outlet Bild, via ESPN. “RB are on a good way to become a big club, which plays in Champions League soon. In spite of that I can’t promise that Emil will stay in Leipzig this winter.”

Forsberg still has more than four years remaining on his current deal and Leipzig are not in a position where they need to sell one of their best players, which means it would likely require an enormous bid for the Bundesliga outfit to part ways with the midfielder mid-way through a season in which they are still battling Bayern Munich for top spot.

The 25-year-old was actually sent off in a 3-0 defeat to Bayern in their final match before the winer break, which has left Leipzig three points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Losing their No.10 would be a real blow to their chances of sustaining pressure on Bayern, after Forsberg registered more assists than any other player in the first half of the Bundesliga campaign (8). Not only that, but he is the fifth highest rated player in the division (7.56) and has also scored five goals to go with his assists.
