Strootman set for layoff after surgery

 

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing his third operation on his troublesome knee, the Giallorossi have confirmed.

 

Strootman, 24, had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the last few years, but has is career plagued by chronic knee problems.

 

The Holland international went under the knife over the weekend to have his cruciate ligament rebuilt and he will now be out for several months after a successful operation.

 

“Kevin Strootman today underwent reconstructive ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] surgery on his left knee,” Roma confirmed in a club statement on Tuesday.

 

“The operation went well and the midfielder will now continue with his rehabilitation program.”

The former PSV midfielder only managed to make 6 appearances in Serie A last season, with his last coming in a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the end of January.
