West Ham manager David Moyes has denied reports that he is interested in bringing Michy Batshuayi to the London Stadium this month.
The Belgian international has failed to force his way into the Chelsea starting XI in his second season at Stamford Bridge, despite Alvaro Morata’s poor form.
Sevilla have been credited with an interest in Batshuayi, as have West Ham, with rumours suggesting he could be used as a makeweight that would see Andy Carroll from east to west London before the close of the transfer window.
However, Moyes has today come out and denied any interest in the 24-year-old and in the process played down speculation he was at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s penalty shootout win over Norwich on Wednesday night to watch any players in particular.
"I don't think people should make an awful lot of it, I go to a lot of games. I'm a football supporter as well as a manager," Moyes is quoted as saying by Sky Sports ahead of West Ham’s meeting with Bournemouth this weekend.
"We never said we were interested in him (Batshuayi). We try not to talk about players at other clubs because I'm there to watch a game and wasn't necessarily there to watch anyone individually."
Moyes also confirmed that the club has received no official bid for Carroll, but that interest in the forward comes as little shock.
"We've said all along we've received no official offer from Chelsea for a loan deal, we wouldn't have accepted it anyway as we've said,” the Hammers boss added.
"He deserves it (the interest) because over the years he's been a handful to play against and he's probably a bit of a dying breed of big centre-forwards who are hard to play against and offer something different.”
