Chelsea will move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart if Real Madrid sign Thibaut Courtois in the summer, reports The Sun on Sunday.
Antonio Conte’s side are desperate to convince Courtois to sign a new contract as his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season and Real Madrid are circling.
The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for Courtois in the past and are expected to rekindle their interest in the summer in a bid to find a long-term replacement for Keylor Navas.
Madrid are also interested in Manchester United’s David de Gea but a deal for Courtois appears the most straightforward of the two and Chelsea are now shortlisting potential replacements.
The defending Premier League champions priority is to convince Courtois to renew but will move for City goalkeeper Hart if they fail to keep the Belgium international out of Madrid’s clutches.
Hart’s stock has fallen dramatically since Euro 2016 and it would be a real shock if Chelsea moved for the 30-year-old.
The England international has spent the season on loan at West Ham after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad by Pep Guardiola but has even lost his place in goal at the east London outfit.
Hart has dropped below Adrian in the pecking order under David Moyes after making a poor start to life at the club. In 18 matches in all competitions for West Ham this season, Hart has only kept a clean sheet on five occasions.
