Chelsea are still hopeful of agreeing a new contract with Willian despite finalising a deal to sign Ajax sensation Hakim Ziyech, claims The Independent.
Willian has entered the final six months of his current Chelsea deal and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona for years.
The Brazil international is enjoying life at Chelsea but is not happy with the current proposal of a new 12-month deal on the table from the Blues.
Willian is said to want a three-year extension, which would be completely against Chelsea's policy of new contracts for players the wrong side of 30.
Chelsea have at least shown they will make exceptions in that regard after David Luiz signed a two-year deal in 2019 at the age of 32.
After confirming Ziyech will join from Ajax for £36.7m in the summer earlier this week, it appeared Willian would lave Frank Lampard's side on a free.
However, Chelsea remain in discussions with Willian's camp about a new contract and are hopeful of keeping the 31-year-old beyond the current campaign.
Willian has been a key player for Lampard during his first season as manager of Chelsea with 19 starts from their 25 league games.
The veteran has played a direct hand in eight goals in the Premier League this season and is the club's top WhoScored rated player (10+ starts) in the competition (7.26).
