Manchester United defender to address future at the end of the season

Mateo Darmian has revealed he could leave Manchester United in the summer but will not think about his future until the end of the season.

The Italy international has underwhelmed for United since joining from Torino in 2015 and has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Jose Mourinho this season.

Mourinho has already moved on several of the players signed during the Louis van Gaal regime and Darmian is expected to be another, having been regularly linked with a return to Italy throughout the season.

Injuries in defence in recent weeks has ensured Darmian has been given an extended run in the team but that is not expected to extend into next season and the 27-year-old will weigh up his future in the summer.

“I don’t think it is the right time to speak about my future,” The Daily Mirror quote Darmian as saying. Now is the time to think about playing against Arsenal on Sunday and nothing more.

“At the end of the season, we will see what happens. It is normal when you play for Manchester United there is a lot of competition for places from great players.

“When the manager gives me an opportunity, I try to do my best and that is it. I want to help the team achieve our objectives and then let’s see.”

Darmian has only started 14 league games this season but has featured in most of their Europa League matches, starting five of them. In fact, only two players left in the competition average more tackles per game than Darmian (4.2).
