Klopp makes Mane admission

Liverpool could be without star attacker Sadio Mane for the remainder of the season, manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

The Senegal international was forced off the in the second half of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Everton at the weekend.

And the big money summer arrival could miss the Champions League run in with a knee injury sustained in the Merseyside Derby.

When asked if the injury is season-ending, Klopp is quoted by the Guardian as saying: “Unfortunately that is possible but why should I say it now when I don’t know? The knee is swollen and we have to wait for the final assessment. Even then - especially then - the more difficult the situation the better it is to handle it.

“My job is to find solutions. This is a good situation: we have 59 points, we are in a nice position - yes a few teams have played less games than we have but they cannot win them all because they have to play each other. The whole season is to prepare the finish and this is the finishing part of the season. Eight games to go.

“We expect results from ourselves, we want to fight for everything. A few players key players are not available at the moment but as long as we have 11 players to start and a few to bring on everything is fine.”

Liverpool are yet to discover the full extent of the injury, but Mane will certainly miss Wednesday’s night’s welcome of Bournemouth.

His absence will come as a blow to the Reds, with Mane directly involved in more Premier League goals (18 - 13 goals, 5 assists) than any other Liverpool player this season.
