Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the club want to keep Alvaro Morata amid speculation linking the striker with a return to Real Madrid.
Madrid included a buy-back clause in the deal that saw Morata swap the Spanish capital for Juventus 12 months ago and the Serie A club are aware of Rafi Benitez’s interest in the Spaniard.
The 22-year-old would be able to return to the Santiago Bernabéu for €30m (£21.8m) next summer, but Marotta is keen to keep the emerging star.
“We’re happy with the deal that we concluded last year; there was a lot of scepticism about the signing but he has proved himself to be a fantastic player,” Marotta is quoted as saying by AS.
“We are counting on his willingness to continue, he’s happy here. In any case, we have a good relationship with Real Madrid so we’ll see what happens. Our intention is to keep Morata; we are in no doubt about that.”
Morata scored two of the three goals that knocked Madrid out of the Champions League semi finals last season, which sparked reports of his return to the club.
